Gauchos to face Vikings on GSN

The Saddleback football team (9-2) will host Long Beach City College (9-1) in the Southern California Regional Championship this Saturday at 6:00 PM.  The game can be seen live via streaming video on the Gaucho Sports Network.

The winner of this game will advance to the state championship game on December 12th at the home site of the winner of Saturday's City College of San Francisco (10-1) vs. Chabot College (9-2) matchup in Northern California.

Saddleback defeated Riverside City College, 37-20, last Saturday for a spot in the regional finals after earning the #1 seed during the regular season.  The Gauchos were given the top seed after winning the National Division Southern League with a perfect 6-0 record.

Long Beach City advanced to the finals with a 34-30 win over Cerritos College.  The Vikings finished in a three-way tie for the National Division Central League title along with Riverside and Mt. San Antonio College.

Saddleback and Long Beach have met on 18 occasions with the Gauchos holding a 13-5 advantage in the series.  Saddleback has won 11 straight games against Long Beach, but the last time the two programs met was in 2009 when the Gauchos came away with a narrow 28-24 win.

Long Beach is led on offense by the sensational freshman combination of quarterback Jack Lowary and wide receiver Mike Wilson along with sophomore running back Darren Johnson.  The Gauchos have been led by sophomore quarterback Johnny Stanton and a pair of sophomore wide receivers in Dominic Collins and Zach Davis

Ticket prices for the SCFA regional championship game are $12 for General Admission and $8 for students, faculty, staff, senior citizens (60+), and active military.  Tickets are available at the stadium ticket booth which opens 90 minutes before kickoff.

For those that cannot make it but still have a desire to watch, the game will be broadcast online by the Gaucho Sports Network for a one-time fee of $9.95.  All proceeds from the broadcast go directly back into the athletics department to help promote the athletes and teams.  Click here to watch the game.
