Record week earns Stanton POW honors

Saddleback quarterback Johnny Stanton was selected the National Division Southern League Offensive Player-of-the-Week after leading the Gauchos to a 42-17 win at El Camino College on Saturday.  It is the second time in three weeks a Saddleback player has won a POW award.

Stanton had a massive week, leading the team in both passing and rushing.  He finished 37-for-48 for 468 yards and four touchdowns as a passer while rushing for 72 yards and another score on the ground.  Stanton was also a part of the longest pass play in Gaucho history, connecting with Dominic Collins on a 93-yard score in the second quarter.  His 468 yards passing was the sixth biggest game in Saddleback history and his total yards from scrimmage (540) set a new single-game record, previously held by Tim Belman during the 2013 campaign.

Stanton is well known in the area for leading Santa Margarita Catholic High School to a CIF title in 2011.  He then was at the University of Nebraska before returning home to play for the Gauchos.
