Baseball commits hit 10

The Saddleback baseball program was back in the news this week as the Gaucho coaching office announced that two more members of the 2019 squad have committed to four-year programs.  Filip Smola and Chris Demgen made commitments, bringing the total to 10 for the year.

Smola will continue his collegiate career at the University of Charleston while Demgen will play at San Francisco State.

Smola played in 41 games the past two years for Saddleback, batting .261 in 119 plate appearances.  He had eight multi-hit games in 2019, including a three-RBI game against Golden West on March 30.  The University of Charleston is located in Charleston, West Virginia.  The Golden Eagles play an NCAA Division II schedule within the Mountain East Conference.

Demgen played in 58 games in two seasons with the Gauchos, finishing with 39 hits in 154 at-bats (.253).  He led the Gauchos with three home runs this past season and had the fifth highest slugging percentage (.407).  Demgen had three hits on two occasions this past spring and seven multi-hit games.  San Francisco State is located in San Francisco, California, and plays an NCAA Didivion II schedule within the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
