Gauchos blank Jaguars for sixth straight win

The Saddleback baseball team won its sixth straight game on Thursday with a 7-0 victory at Southwestern College.  Mike Jarvis had four hits while Tanner Brubaker improved to 5-0 on the season.

Saddleback improved to 12-2 on the season, becoming the first team in the southern half of the state to win a dozen games.  Brubaker also became the first pitcher to record his fifth win of the season as he blanked Southwestern for 6.2 innings before turning things over to the bullpen with a seven run lead.  Brubaker struck out five Jaguars along the way and now has 32 k's in 35 innings of work, sporting a 0.26 ERA for the year.  Zak Herbers and Nick Hernandez pitched the final 2.1 innings, surrendering just one hit.

Jarvis was the workhorse for Saddleback on offense, going 4-for-4 with two runs-scored and two RBI while hitting out of the nine hole.  Jarvis got the Gauchos on the board first when he singled home Connor Glenn and Riley Kasper in the top half of the third inning for a 2-0 lead.  He then singled for his third hit of the game to lead off the seventh inning and later came around to score as Saddleback tacked on three runs to put the game out of reach.  Jarvis would later single in the eighth inning, raising his batting average 88 points on the day.

Jo-Jo Quintanilla, Brett O'Toole and Willie Lajoie each had two hits apiece as Saddleback pumped out 13 hits while taking five free passes from Jaguar pitchers.

Saddleback will play again when they travel to Compton College on Saturday.  The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM in Compton.
