Two Gauchos make early commitments

The Saddleback baseball team (10-2) is off to a good start and with the success on the field comes attention off the field.  Two players from the 2018 squad have already made commitments to four-year universities, according to the baseball office.

Brett Auerbach and Tanner Brubaker are a big part of why the club is 10-2 out of the gate and the scouts have apparently noticed as both have already given verbal commitments.  Auerbach committed to the University of Alabama while Brubaker will play more locally at UC Irvine.

Auerbach committed to the University of Alabama, located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  The Crimson Tide play in the Southeastern Conference and have opened the season 3-0 so far. Auerbach was an All-Orange Empire Conference First Team selection last season when he batted .315 and led the team in runs-scored (30), hits (51), doubles (14), walks (21), stolen bases (10) and RBI (24).  So far this season, Auerbach is batting a sizzling .447 with a .632 slugging percentage, leading the team in doubles (5), bases-on-balls (14) and stolen bases (12) while committing zero errors behind the plate.

Brubaker made a commitment two weeks back to UC Irvine, located in Irvine, California.  The Anteaters play in the Big West Conference and are currently 2-1 on the season.  Brubaker came to Saddleback from California Baptist University where he was a part of the Lancer program last spring.  He has started the season by winning his first four starts with a 0.32 ERA.  Brubaker has struck out 27 batters in 28.1 innings of work so far this season and is one of four pitchers in the state with four wins.

Saddleback will play on the road this week at San Diego Mesa College (Tuesday, 2:00 PM), Southwestern College (Thursday, 2:00 PM) and Compton College (Saturday, 1:00 PM).
