Pena is latest Gaucho to sign

The Saddleback baseball team was back in the news this week when the baseball office announced that another member of the 2017 team has signed a letter of intent to a four-year program.  Ryan Pena became the most recent Gaucho to make a decision.

Pena will continue his baseball career at Calvin College, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Pena played in 21 games for Saddleback this spring, batting .238 in 42 plate appearances with one home run while playing in the outfield.  Pena had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in the field for the Gauchos in 2017.  He entered the program this spring from JSerra High School in San Juan Capistrano.

Calvin plays an NCAA Division III schedule playing in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.  The Knights were 20-23 in 2017, finishing in fourth place in the MIAA.

Pena's signing brings the total of Saddleback players moving on to four-year institutions to eight.  The Gauchos finished 26-17 overall in 2017, falling to Long Beach City College in the Southern California playoffs.
