Harris declaws Cats in CV opener

The Saddleback baseball team opened the annual three-day tour of the Central Valley with a 3-0 win over Reedley College in Reedley, California.  Daniel Harris pitched a gem while the Gauchos got a big bop from Jerry Carrillo.

Saddleback and Reedley had similar records entering the game so most figured for a hotly contested game in game one of the Central Valley Tournament.  The Gauchos received a heroic performance from Harris, who pitched a complete game to improve to 4-4 on the season.  Harris surrendered just four hits while striking out four, and made it look easy.  The Tigers never had a runner advance past second base all afternoon as the Gauchos grabbed a 3-0 lead in the third inning and made it stick.

The other star was Carrillo, who ran into a pitch for his second home run of the season with two runners on base for a 3-0 lead in the third.  It was the third straight hit of the inning after Adam Gordon doubled and Spencer Heinsius singled to put runners at the corners with one out in the inning.  Saddleback finished with only four hits all afternoon, but made them count in improving to 21-11 on the season.

Saddleback will continue their travels at College of the Sequoias on Wednesday afternoon.  Start time with the Giants is scheduled for 1:00 PM in Visalia.
