Gauchos drain Harbor

The Saddleback baseball team won its second straight game with a 9-4 win at Los Angeles Harbor College on Tuesday.  Erik Voller hit his first home run of the season while the pitching staff limited the opportunities for the Seahawks.

Saddleback started the year at 10-0 and then ran into a cold spell, losing three straight games last week.  This week they bounced back with two wins of their own, getting back on track to what they hope is a playoff berth at the end of the regular season.

The Gauchos received a great start from Daniel Harris along with some timely hitting in one of their final tune-ups before heading into Orange Empire Conference play.  Harris pitched six innings of four-hit ball before turning it over to Devin Sutorius in the seventh inning.

Saddleback scored one run in the fifth inning and three more in the sixth in taking a 4-0 lead.  Erik Voller homered to left field for his first home run of the season in the fifth to give the Gauchos a 1-0 lead.  Spencer Heinsius was in the middle of things in the sixth when he doubled home both Adam Gordon and Andrew Wilson for a 3-0 lead.  Heinsius then scored the fourth run of the game on a wild pitch by Alec Abdalah with two outs in the inning.

Harbor scored its first run of the game in the bottom half of the sixth inning to narrow the gap to 4-1 before Saddleback again exploded to put the game out of reach.  The Gauchos scored four times in the seventh, taking advantage of three hits, two hit-batsmen and a walk.  Mike Jarvis singled with two men on to load the bases with no outs in the inning.  Brett O'Toole and Brett Auerbach were then both hit with wild pitches, making the score 6-1.  Gordon followed with a sacrifice fly before Wilson drove home O'Toole with a double for an 8-1 lead.

The single by Jarvis in the seventh was his third hit of the game, upping his average for the season to .417.  Jarvis is now 10-for-18 in his last five games, scoring four times while walking twice.

Saddleback will play on Friday when they travel to San Diego City College to take on the Knights.  The first pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM.
