Gauchos roll perfect seven for No. 8

The Saddleback baseball team improved to 8-0 with a 7-0 win over Southwestern College on Tuesday at Doug Fritz Field.  The Gauchos received a great outing from starter Daniel Harris while pounding out 11 hits in the win.

Saddleback scored twice in the bottom of the first inning when they connected for four straight hits.  After the first two batters were retired, Tyler Clark singled, Adam Gordon singled and Andrew Wilson singled to score Clark.  Erik Voller followed with a ground rule double to left field scoring Gordon and the Gauchos had a 2-0 lead.

It would end up being all that Saddleback would need as Harris shut down the Southwestern offense.  Harris pitched 6.1 innings, striking out four while surrendering four hits.

Brett O'Toole gave Saddleback some insurance room in the bottom half of the sixth inning when he doubled down the right field line with two outs to score both Gordon and Clark.  It was one of two hits on the day for O'Toole, who finished 2-for-4 with three RBI.  O'Toole was joined by Gordon and Brett Auerbach with two hits apiece for the afternoon.

Harris left in the seventh inning with Saddleback up 4-0.  He gave way to a combination of Michael Carr, Connor Sealey and Brandon Helmick, who combined to strike out four over the final 2.2 innings of work.

Saddleback improved to 7-0 with the win.  The Gauchos will travel to Chaffey College on Wednesday for a 2:00 PM start with the Panthers.
