Gauchos blank Vaqueros in the sand

The Saddleback women's beach volleyball team picked up its first win of the season with a 5-0 defeat of Glendale College on Wednesday at Doheney State Beach.  It was the first sweep for the Gauchos since blanking College of the Desert last season.

Saddleback had it on cruise control for most of the day against Glendale, dropping just two sets on the afternoon.  Avie Butsko and Kiana Camargo led things off with a 21-8, 21-11 win on court one.  Soon thereafter, Landry Armstrong and Nicolette Spriggs finished of their opponents on court three, 21-9, 21-12.

Michelle Solt teamed with Stevie Wenzel on court four for a three set win, coming from behind after losing the first set 18-21 to dominate 21-12 and 15-4 in the tiebreaker.  Jillian Hewitt and Antonette Rolda did the same on court two, dropping the opening set 19-21 before rallying for a 21-13, 15-5 win.

Saddleback received a gift on court five as Sydnee Cunico and Kayla Logsdon were forfeit winners.

Saddleback will be back in the sand on Friday in a four-way tournament in Orange Empire Conference play with Fullerton College, Riverside City College and Irvine Valley College.  The Gauchos take on Fullerton at 12:00 PM in their opening match at the Pearce Sports Center in Riverside.
