Gauchos nearing first win in the sand

The Saddleback beach volleyball team took a step closer to winning its first match of the season with a 3-2 loss to Rio Hondo College on Wednesday at Doheny State Beach.  The Gauchos were shorthanded heading into the match.

Saddleback knew it had its work cut out for them heading into Wednesday's match.  With only enough players to play in four out the five matches, they would have to overcome the odds to secure their first win of the season.  The Gauchos won twice but came up short on a third in falling to the Roadrunners.

Saddleback got wins out of team-1 and team-4, but came up short in the other two matches.  Kiana Camargo and Avie Butsko had the most impressive win at on court one, winning in straight sets 21-14, 21-17.  Jillian Hewitt and Stevie Wenzel had the other win for the Gauchos on court four with a marathon three-set win 22-24, 25-23, 15-11. 

Saddleback had a chance but came up short on court two when Nicolette Spriggs and Landry Armstrong lost in three sets 8-21, 22-20, 10-15.

Saddleback will be back in the sand against Glendale College on March 28.  Match time for the Gauchos and Vaqueros is set for 12:30 PM at Doheny State Beach.
