Saddleback surf finishes second at Black’s Beach

The Saddleback Surf Club finished second among college teams at the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) event at Black's Beach in San Diego last week.  The Gauchos had two individual champions.

Saddleback has had a long history of being one of the better surf teams in the country and the 2019-20 team looks as solid as ever.  The Gauchos finished second among the 31 college teams in attendance, with Ian Gottron and Eli Fox winning their respective events.

Saddleback finished second to MiraCosta College, and was right in front of Point Loma Nazarene, Cal State San Marcos and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in the team competition.

Fox was a winner in the short board competition, beating the other 185 competitors from the 31 different colleges in attendance.  Gottrom took home first place honors in the long board, beating out the other 31 competitors.

In addition to Fox and Gottrom, Bryce Mattox was seventh in the short board and Lucas Taub finished 10th in the short board competition.

The NSSA has another event this Friday and Saturday at Seaside Reef in Cardiff by the Sea.
